Who needs accountability?

Meeee, this girl does! Last week went sideways. I could list plenty of reasons but pretty much they all boil down to .. I took a week long break from all things. Lol. I managed to survive with the 3 kids and hubby in tow. Bleh. Even when you are so very much wanting to change things and make better choices, sometimes you’ll have a hiccup and come to a halt. Getting back to it by making plans and setting a goal will help you start turning those gears again.

My plan: follow the 21 Day Fix and train for a 5K Thanksgiving run
My (short term) goal: Lose 15 more pounds

The people over at Beach Body finally listened to all the voices asking them more a more reasonable vegan 21 Day Fix eating plan. They way the plan was before, the only vegan sources of protein allowed were tofu, tempeh (which is tofu-like), Shakeology, and a very vague “veggie burger”. Thats just not enough choices and no one wants to eat 4 servings of tofu a day! I did the whole 21 days before, eating only vegan foods, but it was pretty limiting.

But they recently edited the 21DF plan to include many more plant based sources of protein, along with a new break down of carbs, and a change in the 21DF container amounts. Which made this girl super happy!!! I can do the plan while focusing on eating a vegan diet and actually continue the nutrition plan after the 21 days is over! (Why do I ❤ this plan so much? They have a pretty great listing of yummy and healthy foods you can eat, you use their recommendations for calorie bracket and container amounts, cook the food, measure it in the containers, and eat the allowed containers for that day. Its really simple and takes little thought.)

I just prepped my meals for the next 3 days. Why 3 days? I figured out that batch cooking for any longer then that takes too much time, the food doesnt stay super fresh, and I start getting tired of eating it after 3 days! Im posting not exactly to get anyone to join (although, hello, you totally should join!) but to have the accountability of putting it out there. Encouragement and accountability. Because I want to lose the stupid final 15 pounds that have been hanging around. And I want to show that this nutrition plan is very do-able (even for people with dietary needs or restrictions, like no animal products). It can be done. You can do it. I HAVE done it (after baby no. 2) and I WILL do it again this time. Woop Woop!

  • Breakfast : Smoothy (Shakeology, Salad greens, Banana, 2tsp chia, water)
  • Lunch: Quinoa, Tempeh, String beans, Mushrooms
  • Snack: Apples, Nuts, 2teasp peanut butter
  • Dinner: Brussels sprouts, snow peas, tofu, Sweet potatoes, hemp seeds, 1tsp oil
  • Snack: Edamame, Cauliflower, Brown rice

What if I fail?

Social media can be a fantastic tool but it can also be a big ole lie! Its super easy to post only the great moments, the good days, the times when you are spot on with your nutrition and exercise, and only showing the after pics. People only showing their highlight reel and never talking about the insecurities or challenges they face. (Well, I guess there are those people who never have battled anything difficult in their life, but I am not one of them.) I do not want to be guilty of publishing a fake version of myself which is why this post is important to me.

Today starts Week 2 of my Fall into Fitness PiYo Challenge. I have some fantastic challengers who are killing it, so far they have totally exceeded all the goals they have set for themselves. It does take a commitment in both money and time; an investment in their health and dedication to stick with the challenge for the 60 days. Along with being inspired by their awesome work, I think its important for me to be completely honest with where I am at in this challenge to: 1) show the progress you can expect, 2) help encourage others that yes I struggle too, 3) I think when you share something personal about yourself that it ties you closer to the people around you.

It’s easy to share when you’ve gotten to the finish line and can show what you’ve accomplished … but its so hard to share when you’re just at the starting point. What if I fail? What if I don’t accomplish my goals? What if I get made fun of? What if? Especially with such a sensitive topic as weight loss. Every single person has an area in life that they struggle with. My struggle just happens to be weight related and I’m fighting to overcome that. Its not a brave thing to share when you have made it to the other side of that trench and have overcome the problem. It is brave thing to share while you are in the middle of fighting to dig yourself out of the hole. And I am still in the fighting stage.

That brings me to this post. My “Before” pics, I took these last week right when I started the challenge so they are really my current pics. No trying to stand in a way that made me look super cute for the camera, no trying to suuuuck it in, no hiding. I posted the pic on my Instagram because I appreciate the support, encouraging comments and love I get there. I haven’t shared them anywhere else because I was a little … nervous.

These shorts I got 2 summers ago when I had originally lost 50lbs. I remember getting them and loving how they fit. I was so happy and confident! I tried them on at the start of this summer and I couldn’t even button them! No amount of jumping up and down, wiggling, sucking in my gut, nothing I did made these babies close! I am happy to say that now they button! So that’s progress. I was even able to get them to zip! But I would never wear them out in public because of how dreadfully uncomfortable they are. Squishing my stomach and not cute. No.

Progress Pants

So here are my Progress Pants. The scale can say whatever it wants to. I have stopped caring what the number is. But my clothes dont lie. I am determined to fit comfortably into these babies by the end of my PiYo Challenge. (Which means, yes I will be wearing white after Labor Day, ha!) Losing inches and gaining confidence, those are my goals. Even though it is a little scary to show the “Current” pic, I will because magic happens when you step outside of your comfort zone!

Where’d I go? Transformation

I talked about joining the #FitTeamInspire group in the post before last but for today I wanted to share some of the exciting results that Ive seen! Since joining and becoming part of the Beachbody community at the end of last year I decided to throw my dedication into this new avenue. I had lost 50 lbs after delivering kiddo #2 but I did it all on my own. This time around, after baby #3, I really wanted to connect with others and have an extra push.

Our #FitTeamInspire has hosted several challenge groups that I completed: the PiYo and 21 Day Fix Extreme programs. I also used the Focus T25 workout dvds.. as well as continuing with cardio and Zumba class at my gym. Ill be honest, Focus T25 was my least favorite program, its a lot of jumping (plyometrics is the fancy term) and ya girl just isn’t good at that! Its hard and uncomfortable and sucks. Lol. I guess its a good kind of hate. My goal is that once I loose a little more weight, to start and complete T25! The instructor, ShaunT, makes the workouts killer, its a no-joke kind of thing because he demands that you give it everything you’ve got and requires you to focus only what you’re doing. The workouts are short but boy do they work you!

PiYo and Zumba are my exercise loves; PiYo is like yoga on crack, only body weight is used so it makes me feel strong. The progress I saw with this one was slow but once I started noticing a change it was like, BOOM, hello muscles! Plus it is easy to take the moves and use them wherever, when I was on vacation in Key Largo I did PiYo on several mornings. Zumba is ridiculously fun and leaves me feeling oh so sexy! I take the class at my gym and its heavenly for when I need an hour of kid-free time. Finally, 21 Day Fix Extreme is THE program for getting your diet in check. It really helped me tune in to what I was eating and knock out any unhealthy habits. Its fool proof in that the lady who developed it did all the hard work for you, all you have to do is follow the directions and you’re good as gold.

I know that sounds like a lot of different kinds of programs but I love switching it up. Trying new things keeps my interest and helps me stay dedicated because Im never bored. As opposed to just going to the gym and running on the treadmill, yawn! I took a pic of myself before I started with the programs and then again last week, to compare. Sometimes it feels like progress is at a standstill – if the scale wont budge or if I have an off week – but these pictures don’t lie.

Before and After weight loss with Beachbody I’m pretty stoked with the progress! I’m toying around with doing another round of the 21 Day Fix Extreme because I appreciate the dummy-proof program and I think that’s exactly what I need right now with homeschooling starting back. Crazy schedules means this mama doesn’t have the time to mess around. Ain’t no body got time for that! So while this picture shows a before and after – I’m determined to make this “after” my new before!

I wanted to share what I had been doing because I know when I see some else’s transformation I want to know exactly what they did to get their results. There are innumerable different programs & eating plans out there that are suppose to help people get fit, lose weight, get stronger, be leaner, have a sexy body, and be healthy. However, the key is to be dedicated and consistent with whatever it is you’re doing.

Whats the 21DFX?

While my focus recently has been on health, a portion of that does have to do with my weight and I know that where Im at now simply is not best for my body. Since the birth of baby num 3, Ive lost 30 lbs but the beginning of this year I hit a standstill even though I still have the goal of losing 50 (ish) more lbs. Instead of getting discouraged and giving up because it wasnt happening, last week I pulled the trigger on a great fitness program that will hopefully put me even closer to my goal!

The program is 21 Day Fit Extreme and it focuses on exercise along with nutrition. As the title suggests, its only for 21 days but the short length of time is made up by the intensity of the program. I like a challenge and this most definitely fits the bill. The exercise portion is pretty easy to follow, you do the assigned workout every single day. In place of a rest day there is a yoga ‘active recovery’ day (good for me because I ❤ yoga). The diet portion is a little more complicated but sooo worth it! Its based off a recommended calorie bracket and corresponding containers you use to measure out your food. The food segment is where I really want to challenge myself!

For the past 3 years I have been vegetarian (dont eat animals but still eat egg/dairy). A decision I made for mostly health reasons vs ethical reasons. (Full disclosure, with the rare occasion of eating sushi or seafood, which is not something I really do anymore because seafood is still eating animals.) With this program I am really trying to focus on getting all of the animal products out of my diet. 21 DFX with a Vegan slant! That means no butter, eggs, cheese, milk… A clean, plant based diet!

Why? Well this something my husband posted on my Facebook, a year ago today!

OTD

I remember this! I was overdue with our baby Joseph and went grocery shopping one last time before my induction (scheduled for the 2nd), whereupon I picked up these lovely items at the grocery store: stuffed crust pizza (I picked off & threw away the frozen pepperoni, ew I know), jalapeno poppers, nutella, and oreos. Having the label of ‘vegetarian’ doesnt necessarily mean that you eat healthy and when you eat this crap all the time instead of rarely, no bueno. Believe it or not, this was me eating better then how I had been eating a meat eater! Eating better but not great. Its easy to fall into those same bad eating traps and changing those habits has taken some time.

So thats where the 21 Day Fix Vegan Extreme comes into play. Really focusing on what exactly Im eating and the effort I put into exercising to see some awesome weight loss results! (Plus, we are going down to the Keys for vacation and I have no shame to admit that I want to look as hot as possible in my bathing suit! Hahaha.)

Are You Hungry? Weekly Meal Prep

Hey there! I haven’t felt too inspired to write lately but as Im currently trying to search through recipes for this next week’s meals I thought Id share! You know, in case any of yall wanted to do a meatless Monday or even a meatless Monday-Sunday with me! 😉 (Hey, a veggie girl can hope.)

Anyways, Im kind of in a bit of a food rut so instead of trying to come up with something of my own, Im searching through foodie blogs for inspiration. My absolute favorite vegan (no animal products as all) foodie is Happy Herbivore, I have several of her cook books and have found most everything Ive made from hers is delish.. Plus, unlike a lot of other vegan cookbooks I have from different authors, HH is really easy to follow with not a lot of odd ingredients. Easy and fast is exactly what Im looking for.

Breakfast
Chocolate Vegan Shakeology with Unsweetened Coconut Milk

Lunch
Caribbean Peas & Rice
Cassoulet

Dinner
Crockpot 3 Bean and Corn Chili
Chickpea Cacciatore with Italian Veggies

I know cooking all that sounds like a lot at first but Ive found that if I don’t, I end up ordering a cheese, tomato, and jalapeño pizza for dinner. (Ugh!) Ill get too busy with my day and then by the time dinner rolls around, the last thing I want to do is to think of something healthy to cook & actually fix it. To remedy that problem – today is planning the meals and tomorrow is making the meals, then Ill be all set for the rest of the week. It is a lot of work up front but it really does help me stay on track.

Weigh in Wednesday

Its about that time again! Wednesday and the start of a new month. How has your new year been treating you, as far as any goals or items you’d like to get accomplished? “They” say it takes about a month to break old habits and implement new ones. Well, its been a month.. according to what you’ve done, how will the rest of the year shape up for you?

I wanted to get more organized and while I have tackled my children’s play room, I have not gotten to the crafts and office supplies yet. We have been in this new house for 5 months and all of that stuff is still packed up. (I hate unpacking!) Maybe the organization fairy will come help me (aka my wonderful, awesome mom). Judgment free zone, I have not yet taken my Christmas decorations down! Ugh. Stupid decorations. I spend hours putting them up, just to turn around and take them right down after Christmas?! No honey, Im getting full enjoyment out of those lights. Hahaha.

As far as weight loss goes. Blah. Im up 3 lbs (hello 206lbs) since last month. I was hoping to be under that 200 mark. What can I say, life happened. The diet suffered a little from stressful and emotional events. At least Ive consistently maintained working out. Now that things have settled down I know Ill get back into the swing of things again. Weight isn’t everything, Ive seen improvements in my energy levels, Im a much more confident person, and I have lost inches. I just remind myself that consistency is key.

Train hard + eat healthy = see results. I need this in tattoo form!

Its pretty simple. (Keep it simple, stupid!)

Heres a progress pic from yesterday I posted on my Instagram, a day after delivering the baby + 7 months after. Hello booty! 😉 Progress 7 months pp

The main reason Im not discouraged about the scale, I feel awesome! I delivered a 9 +lb baby 7 months ago! It takes time to recover and Im giving myself some grace. That body of mine, which in the past I have criticized far to much, has carried to full term and delivered 3 wonderful children. That’s 28.1lbs of babies. Lol!

I was suppose to start a new training program this past week but we had to unexpectedly go out of town, so Im starting it this Monday. Im super stoked and plan to blog about it. Be prepared to see ridiculously funny pics of my workouts. Ha.

Wait, that’s me?

I haven’t been on very much, I but since today is usually a weigh in post and last week I said I would start doing them at the beginning of each month I thought I could give some NSVs (nonscale victories) … ignoring what the scale says, Ive lost 2 inches off my waist alone. Im pretty thrilled about that!

I also have a before-and-current pic to share. I wasn’t going to show anyone because I wasn’t too happy with the before. It was taken 2 months after I had the baby, September 2014. The current is now, 4 months later.

Even I was shocked at the progress! I guess its hard to see the changes for yourself, or it was for me. I was looking through my camera roll on my phone and came upon the before. I did a double take. Wait, that’s me? When was this taken? Only 4 months ago?! That cant be right! And then I put on the exact same outfit I wore in the before and well…. BOOM! Ah!!! One of my friends told me I should be proud. Period. Not fretting over how Im not yet at my goal. Not being overly critical about my post-baby body. Not nervous about showing my progress.

Well… I am still a little nervous. However, Im going to put it out there anyways and tell that insecure voice in my head to shut up and get lost! I am learning to love myself regardless of what I look like. Don’t be afraid to take pictures of your progress because you might even shock yourself at how far you’ve come.

So whats my secret? Eating better + working out! That’s it. Good ole hard work. I started working out at the gym and then I did this awesome home workout called PiYo (sorta like yoga and pilates, if you want more info Id be happy to share details). I also used Myfitnesspal app to log what I ate, not so much trying to restrict calories but I used it more to make sure I was getting enough nutrients (protein, carbs, calcium, & not too much sugar). Finally, I used a shake every morning for breakfast, it was a quick, mindless meal that I knew was healthy. Its called Shakeology, I used the vegan chocolate flavor. Not quite like eating a Snickers bar or brownies for breakfast but it was pretty good (I can also give more details if interested). And there ya go!

Heres to shameless progress pics! Because I intend to keep going and there will be more of them! 😉
